Hold the Light

Jason is grappling with his mother’s late stage Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Suddenly, his life is an endless loop of late night hospital visits, bouts of mistaken identity, laughter and tears.

But one night when Jason falls asleep by his mother’s bedside, he awakens in darkness. Forced to confront his own grief, he must battle the shadows that have come to steal her remaining memories.

We will all experience the inevitability of aging loved ones and loss. What if the fleeting moments could be spared? How far into the darkness would you wander… to hold the light?

ABOUT:

In this action game, the player tries to prevent darkness from extinguishing the central fire. Each time the flame takes damage, the void expands and the size of the visible gameplay area shrinks. Through the use of light orbs and power-ups, the player must not only survive but fight back against hordes of attacking shadows.

Hold the light explores the notion of what determines consciousness. Is it our memories that make us who we are?

GAMEPLAY:

  • Protect the central flame
  • At the start of each round, the flame will release the light orb weapon
  • During gameplay, the fire releases  an ember that cycles between three different power-ups. The player chooses which power-up to collect
    • Green – provides an automatic spinning orb around the player
    • Purple – the player can place a crystal that absorbs shadows until it breaks
    • Blue – Flashing lights that destroys all shadows on screen
  • Small shadows retreat from the player
  • Larger shadows can be destroyed by both the light orb weapon and power-ups
  • If a player touches a shadow, speed is briefly decreased

Great game! Very polished... and spooky :D My favorite part was seeing all of the animated friends on the title screen.
Whoa! That was fun. More and more of those things just keep coming and almost no slowdown at all! Great looking cutscenes & story. Really like it!
Played the NES Rom on a AVS with the good old Powerpak, works great. Love the one of a kind art style, music is amazing, excellent arcade action. feels like a commercial release. easy 5 stars
